IHDC Adv Diploma in Dance

Absna IHDC 1.5 - 3 Years Dance Course

Students considering an overseas dance degree can choose to take the Full-Time IHDC as an alternative career path. The IHDC Dance course conducted by Absna is a 3-Year Full-Time or Part-Time Practical Dance Performer & Instructor Professional Program.

Trainee teachers positions are open from time to time for Singapore, Maldives, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Australia, London, Los Angeles and other countries for IHDC holders or IHDC trainees, please contact us for details.

In the 3 years course, IHDC students will not only have the option to travel to at least 3 different regional countries for dance classes, they will also have an option to take classes in other famous dance schools in London, Paris, New York or Los Angeles and learn from some of the instructors behind famous dancers, singers and artistes worldwide. Many top performing IHDC undergraduates from Absna also have the opportunity to teach alongside famous instructors during some of these overseas trips.

Many IHDC top undergraduates have constantly received assignments with TV network like Media Corp.

Course learning outcome(s)

The IHDC in Dance is an 18-month program consisting of 25 compulsory modules, 29 elective modules and a dance production project. This course is geared towards preparing the students for a career as a professional instructor and/or performer in the global dance industry.
Focus areas are:

  • Advanced dance techniques & fundamentals
  • Strong Showmanship and stage presence
  • In-depth knowledge of wide genre of dances to train the student’s versatility
  • Developing the skillsets & knowledge of a professional dance performer/instructor
  • Instructional Training in conducting dance lessons

Graduation project (in the form of a dance production)

Course entry requirement(s)
Can converse in and understand one of the following languages: English, Mandarin, Malay or Tamil.  Has completed the Diploma in Dance or its equivalent.

Course schedule with modules and/or subjects
54 modules (each module is once a week, for 6 months.  On average, a student takes classes 5 – 6 days a week, 3 – 5 hrs each.)

manfred Actfa DanceMANGGOH was one of the elite few selected for the Mediacorp Dance Academy in 2000. He graduated from NTU with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and used to work as a Project Manager in the IT Industry. He passed his examination & evaluation for SFDF and is currently doing his Diploma & IHDC. more


maricel Actfa DanceMARICEL, a professional dancer from the Philippines, joined SFDF in 2009. In less than a year, she has performed at the Esplanade Da:ns Festival 2009, Salsa Cruise Asia 2009, & has also been to China to teach & perform. In 2010 she was offered a full time dance instructor job in Singapore. She has since gone on to set up a dance studio in the Philippines and comes back periodically to upgrade her skills.


rachel Actfa DanceRACHEL an undergraduate in NTU joined the SFDF in 2010 and was offered to open a dance studio in China.  She has taught and performed in Guang Zhou, Shen Zhen, Hong Kong, Singapore.


 derrick actfa danceDERRICK has over 20 years of dance instructor experience with more than 30 types of dance. He was granted an exemption from SFDF after taking an examination & evaluation and signed up for the diploma & IHDC simultaneously.


tamil actfa danceTAMIL, a professional dancer & teacher actively involved in competitions & performances for Hip Hop, Bollywood, Indian Dance. He was teaching dance in secondary school and choreographing for SYF. He joined the IHDC program to further his training as a dancer & teacher in 2009.  Since joining the IHDC, he has taught, performed & competed in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan.


brenda actfa danceBRENDA joined the SFDF when she was 13 years old and was hired to teach and perform both locally and overseas after 6 months. She was also financing her own dance study while teaching private dance classes.  Under the SFDF, she was the 1st runner up in the Asia Salsa Championship 2010 and Singapore Bachata Champion 2009.  She was given opportunities to teach in Malaysia, Hong Kong, China.
